Introducing SWT Support in Webswing

We are thrilled to announce a significant new addition to Webswing's capabilities—support for the SWT. With this update, Webswing now extends its powerful web-enabling technology to SWT applications, in addition to our existing support for Swing, JavaFX, NetBeans, and Applet.

What is SWT?

For those unfamiliar, SWT is a popular graphical widget toolkit for Java, developed by the Eclipse Foundation. It is known for its performance and native look-and-feel, as it leverages the underlying operating system’s widgets, giving applications a more seamless and responsive user experience. Notably, the Eclipse IDE, one of the largest and most widely used applications in the developer community, is built on SWT, showcasing its robustness and capability in handling complex, large-scale projects. SWT is widely used in Eclipse-based projects and various enterprise applications that demand a robust and efficient UI framework.

What Does This Mean?

With the inclusion of SWT support, Webswing now empowers developers to bring their SWT-based desktop applications to the web without any need for code changes. This opens up a world of possibilities for organisations looking to modernise their legacy Java applications and make them accessible to users anywhere, through any modern web browser.

Here’s what you can expect with Webswing’s SWT support:

  • Seamless Integration: Just like with Swing, JavaFX, NetBeans, and Applet applications, your existing SWT applications can now be web-enabled effortlessly, maintaining the native look and feel users are accustomed to.
  • Cross-Browser Compatibility: Your SWT applications will run smoothly across all modern web browsers, ensuring a consistent user experience regardless of platform.
  • Enhanced Security and Performance: Webswing continues to prioritise secure and efficient performance, making sure your web-enabled SWT applications perform reliably, even in demanding environments.
  • Easy Deployment: Deploying SWT applications with Webswing is as straightforward as ever, whether on-premises, in the cloud, or in containerized environments like Kubernetes.
